20.07.11 The future is looking bright!!!
Witney Town FC is re-formed for a new era in its history.
Famous local football club is reborn as a registered charity. Witney Town FC, first established in 1885, has been re-formed for the coming season to bring some much-needed positive news for local footballers and fans alike, following the demise of Witney Utd Ltd and the subsequent resignation of club chairman Steve Lake.
Rising like a phoenix from the ashes, Witney Town FC will ensure that West Oxfordshire not only retains a high-profile club for both supporters and talented young players, but also raises money for good causes as a result.
As a registered charity itself, the new organisation will fund two beneficiaries: the wellknown Help For Heroes and Heads Up, a local head and neck cancer research charity.
The driving force behind the famous club’s resurgence, local businessman Tom Amer said, “It’s been an honour to help revive Witney Town FC. Thanks to volunteers and sponsorship from local businesses, we have been able to achieve a great deal in a short space of time to be ready for the new season. Our ambition is to create a fantastic facility in the community for all talented local footballers. We have had great success recently with several of our U18s stepping up to the 1st team and one being signed by North Leigh and we want to build on that.” Witney Town FC’s 1st team will play in the Hellenic Premier League, the reserves will play in the Hellenic Division 2 West and the U18s will play in the Allied Counties league.
A newly created supporters club will offer discounted admission to matches and free entrance to its younger members. To mark the rebirth of the club, Witney Town FC hosts the Oxford United youth team this Saturday, July 23rd, at 3pm, gates open from 1pm.
For ticket information, please contact the club and for business sponsorship opportunities, please contact Tom Amer on 07810652741.

Manager Duncan Colwell was busy again last night ahead of this Saturdays attractive pre season friendly with an Oxford United X1. As well as getting midfielder Jon Rixon sorted he also captured the signature of goalkeeper Chris Perks who was at Tuffley Rovers last season and played in their Gloucestershire Senior Trophy final against Shortwood. Another player to join the ranks was wide man Steve Bick who spent last season at Stroud Town.

08.07.11 Styles, Powell, Roberts & Nagy SIGN!
Witney United have signed all-action midfielder Andy Styles. The popular Styles returns for his third spell at Witney having spent last season at Kidlington. He started his career on the school of excellence programmes at Oxford United and Swindon Town and has good Hellenic experience gained at Milton United and Bicester Town.
Also joining us is 25 years old Alex Powell, an ex Bristol City Trainee, who was subsequently at Hartpury Academy. Powell is a quick, strong winger with an eye for goal and could prove a dark horse this season.
Another new arrival is the versatile Danny Roberts who has joined us from Old Woodstock Town, whilst combative central defender Pete Nagy also re-signed last night.
General manager Andy Lyne said “ it’s good to get Stylo back, he was a big fans favourite during his previous spells with Witney and he’s a real grafter. He gets about the pitch well and weighs in with a decent ratio of goals. We are also delighted to get Alex on board, as we believe he will be a new face and threat to Hellenic League defences. Hopefully he can prove himself a dark horse and have an impact not unlike Ben Thompson did. Danny has trained well in every session so far and is a strong and dependable player who I know our supporters will take to because of his commitment, just as they have Pete Nagy. Duncan Colwell is working very hard to bring in several more new faces and we hope to have news on them next Tuesday. The squad is taking shape nicely and although it remains a very young group, we are all optimistic that we will surprise a few people this season”
05.07.11 zolden, Everett & Lonsdale SIGN!
Witney have signed former striker Chris Zoldan, who has rejoined the club. from neighbours Carterton Town. Boss Duncan Colwell was very happy to get Zoldan back onboard. “Chris is a very cool finisher who has good movement and also links up the play well” said Colwell. Combative midfielder Eddie Everett also put pen to paper last night as did the highly talented Jack Lonsdale.
04.07.11 An interview with Sean McKeon
Our webmaster recently caught up with Witney’s Golden Boot:
1. First off, congratulations on being top scorer for the club last season. Did you set yourself any original targets at the beginning of the season?
I ideally wanted to get to 20 goals as that was an initial target I set. I was extremely pleased to get 24 in the end though. I’m sure the lads will give me some stick if I don’t mention that it would have been more if I hadn’t had missed those couple of penalties!!
2. What was the feeling when safety was confirmed at Killington to ensure Hellenic Premier League status? It was a great feeling walking off to the fans clapping and singing us off – there was no way any of us wanted to be in the position we were in, but we dug hard to get the necessary end result.
3. Obviously there was a fair amount of turmoil both on and off the field last season, how difficult was it to concentrate on the matter in hand, gaining points and winning matches?
It was mentally tough knowing that there was trouble behind the scenes, but we just had to concentrate on the job-in-hand. It’s not nice hearing certain rumours when all you want to do is go out and pick up 3 points on a Saturday or Tuesday.
4. What do you see as the goal for this season, with a new managerial appointment in Duncan?
The plan has got to be to move the club in the direction of which it should never have dropped from, and the new gaffer is a massive part of the moving forward process. We have a great set up and players are likely to want to play at one of the top grounds in the league.
5. Lastly you were there from first game to last during a difficult period for the club, have you got any message for the supporters who stuck with it last season when the going was really tough?
The supporters are unbelievable – I’ve never known a set of supporters who will clap you off even when you are walking off the pitch after a defeat. There’s absolutely no doubt that they are the best supporters in the league. With improvements looking to be made within all areas of the club then hopefully we can put a big smile on their faces this coming season, and hopefully see even more fans coming along to support us.

Every week General Manager Andy Lyne will write a set of notes exclusively for the website with latest goings on at Marriotts Stadium.
Last night’s first training session was a huge success on the signing on front with no fewer than ten more players joining messrs. Barrett, Boxer and McKeon in the “Blankets” ranks. There were 16 there last night and with 9 more due to be there for their first session next Tuesday we are looking healthy. Obviously you get one or two players who turn up and have a look to see who is about etc but by and large this sorts itself out within the first four sessions. read more...
25.06.11 Two of the very, very BEST Sign!
Last night Witney secured the services of Goalkeeper Richard Barrett and Striker Sean McKeon.
Commenting upon the two signings Director of Football Andy Lyne said “ Duncan and myself are delighted to have gained a commitment from Rich and Sean. Rich is a local lad who’s family have a tradition of involvement with the club, he’s got bags of experience at this level and has won the league with North Leigh. He has proven himself to be one of the top keepers at this level over a number of years and he is still only in his mid twenties. Sean is a proven goalscorer at this level and to score 24 goals in a season where by and large the club flirted with relegation is some achievement. Obviously we are hoping that he and young Joey Fullerton can continue where they left off and indeed we also hope to bring back another proven goalscorer to the club this summer.
In the meantime we are pleased to get two of the best players in their respective positions to sign for the new club, we hope it sends out a positive message that Witney is moving forwards once again.”
