united in the community!! 05-03-08
I am Andrew Magnay - the community officer at Witney United FC. My role is to involve schools’ and the wider community with our football club. I thought I would update you on a few matters.
The next home game against Almondsbury Town is one of the big community initiatives this season. This match is free to enter for all RAF Brize employees and their families. This is an opportunity to thank our Forces for all their hard work and for the wider community to come and experience a game at the Marriott’s stadium. So, I hope that I will see many new faces and that indeed the people will enjoy the match and come and see us again! Thank you to Bob Haydon who has done a grand job putting up posters around the base.
As many of you now know there is a free admission game for the whole community on Saturday April 12th when we entertain Flackwell Heath. Thank you to those of you who have helped distribute over 2,000 flyers to homes. Thank you to my wife who stuck on 2,000 ‘Flackwell’ stickers to cover the wrongly printed ‘Wallingford’ name. The purpose of this is to say thank you to our regular supporters and to give the people of Witney an opportunity to come and see what we are all about.
Joel Hammer (who is the early show presenter at Radio Oxford) is meeting up with me to do a feature on the club. I will let you know when it is to be on the air waves – so you can all get up early! Radio Oxford are always supportive in helping to publicise our matches etc.
I have also started a new monthly business award. This is to thank businesses who regularly display our posters. The winner will receive four free tickets for a specific home match. The first winner is Banawe Ltd on Corn Street.
I am a strong believer that people should support their local club. Match days always prove great value for money and there is a friendly feel about the club. According to the statistics we are the best supported club in West Oxfordshire although I would love to see more people coming through the turnstiles. I encourage you to bring along some friends.
I am always open to ideas about how we can further our links with local schools and the community.
Best wishes,
Andrew Magnay
